AiCM SPORTS MASSAGE TEAM REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The mission of the AiCM Sports Massage Team is to set high standards of excellence in the theory and practice of Sports Massage Therapy. Sponsored by the American Institute of Clinical Massage, the AiCM-SMT consists of massage therapists who have an interest in providing quality massage therapy to athletes participating in sporting events throughout North Idaho and the Inland Northwest.
Requirements for Team Membership:
- To become either a professional or student member in the AiCM-SMT,
you must be appropriately licensed and carry your own liability insurance,
throughout the season. Each team member will be designated as a professional
or student member.
- Professional and student members must have completed a minimum of twelve (12) hours of Sports Massage Therapy training, of which at least three (3) hours focus on pre/post event Sports Massage. Any individual with a prior Sports Massage background may petition for membership by submitting background documentation to the director.
- Therapists joining at the professional level pay dues of $50. Student members do not pay annual dues.
- Members agree to participate in a minimum of six (6) AiCM-SMT sanctioned sports events. Non sanctioned events may count at the discretion of the director.
- Those applicants who are not approved for membership can petition the director for re-consideration.
Responsibilities of Professional Members:
- Professional members will assist at sanctioned sporting events with the setup and maintenance of the massage area, athletic supervision, clean up and close down of massage areas, etc.
- At sanctioned sporting events, professional members may perform massage therapy, help with triage and other responsibilities appropriate with their level of expertise.
- At paid events, professional members will be paid by the athletes, promoters, or AiCM-SMT official(s) working the event.
Responsibilities of Student Members:
- Student members will assist at sanctioned sporting events with the setup and maintenance of the message area, athletic supervision, clean up and close down of massage area, etc.
- Student members will only perform massage therapy at sanctioned sporting events under the direct supervision of their instructor/mentor.
- Student members may not receive compensation for services rendered, but can receive reimbursement for expenses incurred.
